A scanned image can be indexed in several ways. The least expensive method is to assign an automatically generated file name to each document when it is scanned. An operator can add patch sheets or barcodes to batches to add criteria to the naming of files or to indicate a storage location, but you will still have to search through a large number of files to locate specific documents. More expensive methods involve electronically tagging files with descriptive information about their contents and defining their precise storage location.
